Hi Everyone...........
Some days are tougher than others, and today was a pretty tough day for young Jack. Early this morning he had one of his episodes were he forgets to breathe, while these are common for preemies, Jack had a much harder time than usual recovering from this episode. Fortunately, the doctors were doing their rounds right when it happened so they witnessed the problem first hand. After ordering a few tests, the docs determined that Jack needed a blood transfusion which took place late this afternoon. Since Jack's total blood count was showing a problem with his red blood cells and he was having a problem with his oxygen, the doctors thought the transfusion would give the quickest improvements for Jack's oxygen and anemia.
One of the more common blood disorders, anemia is a low number of red blood cells in the blood. Babies who have anemia may have apnea(stop breathing for 20 seconds or more), low blood pressure, and a high heart rate. Unfortunately Jack has experienced all of these problems in the time he has been with us. We're hopeful with the transfusion that the number of red blood cells in Jack's circulation stabilizes.
On a more positive front, Jack's sugar levels are improving and he had good numbers during all his checks today.
We'll be keeping a close eye on Jack this evening and keep you posted on how things are going. We thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

Good news, I'm pretty sure Jack is up to 2 pounds, 14 ounces now. Love you Jack, see you soon. Aunt Nora
