Another Friday has arrived and Jack continues his forward progress. His weight gain has started to pick-up and his vital signs have been strong. We are still hopeful that a discharge date is in the near future, the docs are keeping a close watch on Jack's food intake.
Mom and Dad attended a "Taking Home Your Baby" class yesterday. The nurse provided us with a check-list of things to do and what to have on hand to make Jack feel at home. With all the lights, bells, and commotion of the NICU the nurse said babies sometimes have a hard time sleeping when its quiet. We think Jack will have plenty of activity to keep him busy in his new surroundings.
For the last forty-six(46) days we have come to Northwestern and have seen moms and dads bringing in car seats to take their babies home. We were asked to bring in our car seat this week, with that said, I guess it really has set in that Jack is on track to leave the hospital. We approach this time with the greatest sense of anticipation and joy, but also with a some nervousness. For almost two months we've had the safety and security of the outstanding nurses that have taken such wonderful care of Jack. We've had such a great education watching the nurses care for Jack it's been a real benefit to us. One of the tests Jack has to accomplish this weekend is to sit in the car seat and maintain his vitals for at least an hour.
We look forward to another great weekend and are hopeful for a homecoming soon.
Stay tuned.......
