JACK'S BACK
Hello,
We're very thankful and appreciative that you're still checking in on Jack. Young Jack is keeping us so busy we've had very little time to sit down and tell you about his great progress. We've been to the doctor twice since our last update and we're excited to tell you that Jack is almost 6 and 1/2 pounds! The doctor was very positive about Jack's continued growth and good health.
Over the last several weeks Jack has been busy visiting many of his relatives throughout the city and suburbs. He really likes taking rides in the "H" mobile (Moms Car). As soon as he gets strapped in and the car starts he is well on his way to dreamland.
Jack's Top Ten list for May:
1. Of course, anywhere Mom takes him.
2. Walks along the lakefront with Mom and Dad
3. Spending time with Grandma Houlihan
4. Visits to Grandma Smith and Aunt Gert
5. Nick and Vito's Pizza (Just Kidding), but soon.
6. Breakfast at Lou Mitchell's after a sucessful doctor's visit.
7. Long Beach.
8. Walks along Lake Shore Drive, and not the busy one
in the city.
9. Aunt Nora, enough said!!!
10. Being surrounded by all his family and friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We can't tell you how wonderful this last month has been watching Jack grow and develop. We watch and talk to him for hours on end. His personality is developing and he has funny facial expressions. We fully appreciate how truly precious this time is for our family and our doing our best to not to take any of it for granted.
Now that we are somewhat settled and establishing our routine we are looking for a nanny to care for Jack when Mom goes back to work. If you know of anyone or have any leads please contact us. We want you all to know how much we appreciate all the calls, emails and letters of encouragement. Give us a call or stop by and see Jack, he really enjoys visitors.
Take Care,
JMJ

Jack's had a great week at home with Mom and Dad. As you can see by the pictures Jack has been able to get out to see the neighborhood this week. Early in the week the weather cooperated and Jack visited the beautiful lakefront with his parents. The warm breezes and fresh air seemed to comfort Jack.
Special thanks to all who stopped by this week including Grandma Houilihan, Bonnie and Jerry, Paula, and Godfather Ryan and Uncle John. Jack almost witnessed his first no-hitter this week, not in person of course, but the pitcher for the Sox fell a couple of outs short, nonetheless it was exciting. Jack's appetite has continued to grow over the last several days and Mom is doing a great job keeping up.
On Friday we will be back to visit Jack's primary doctor for a routine check-up, we look forward to see Jack get back on the scale and are hopeful he has reached the five-pound mark. When you think about it just over two months ago Jack joined us at 2.2lbs. and now we are closing in on 5lbs, it's very exciting. It's funny that during some of our trips out people see Jack and are surprised how small he is, we really don't see it that way. We have become so accustomed to his size we actually think he is big, that is of course until he tries on some of his clothes and gets lost inside. We like to call him our little gloworm, for those of you that were around in the early eighties you know what we mean.
We look forward to celebrating Mom's first Mother's Day on Sunday, it will be such a special day for Mom to spend with her son after all they have been through together. Jack is very lucky to have such a wonderful loving Mom who is always there to provide him with soft touches, gentle hugs and enormous amounts of time and attention.
Happy Mother's Day to All..................

Jack's Back
We have finally caught our breath and wanted to apologize for not updating you on Jack's recent developments. Jack is adjusting very well to his new home, although I'm sure he misses his nursing crew from the NICU. Jack probably wonders why he sees the same two people staring at him every time he opens his eyes. It took Mom and Dad a few long days to finally take their eyes off Jack or to stop checking to see if he was breathing. Jack is still on his three hour feeding schedule which was started in the hospital. It seems we change him, feed him, burp him and then finally get him settled and it's time to start the process all over again. Mom has been wonderful tending to Jack's every need, and we're pretty excited we haven't had to call the doctor or emergency room yet.
It's been a wonderful period of time to be home with Jack, watching him grow and learning all of his mannerisms and sounds. Each day we see more of his personality develop, we are still trying to determine whether most of his characteristics are Houlihan or Smith. He sure likes to eat, and his Mom loves to dress him in all the new wonderful clothes he's received from all his family and friends.
Jack has had many visitors since his arrival home. He was visited last week by Great Uncle Joe all the way from Minnesota, Great Uncle Chuck and Grandma Houlihan were also on hand for the visit. Aunt "The Bridge" and Uncle Mike came by and brought Mom and Dad a wonderful dinner. Great Uncle Jimmy, Jack's new neighbor, stopped by yesterday to check in on Jack.
On Saturday Jack surprised Grandma Smith and Aunt Gert with his first visit to their compound. It will be great when Jack is big enough to enjoy the pool at Grandma's Smith's. Jack made his first trip to the Southside last week when he stopped in to see Aunt Susan, Joanie and Jamie. Jack really seems to enjoy his car rides, Mom is always near his side to make sure he is safe in the backseat.
On Sunday, Jack enjoyed his first of many breakfast trips to Blackies with Mom and Dad, it was his first ride in his Land Rover stroller. Jack went for a tour of the South Loop and had many compliments along the way. We look forward to many trips out in the coming weeks, give us a call and we'll meet you at one of our favorite restaurants or beverage outlets.
We promise to update the log a couple of times a week with new pictures and details of Jack's adventures. We look forward to this week in preparation for Jack's first Mother's Day celebration with his fantastic Mom.
Thanks for checking in, we look forward to seeing everyone soon.
