HAPPY BRITHDAY JACK
On March 2, 2009, Jack celebrated his first birthday. It's been quite a year to say the least, from the NICU to Long Beach, White Sox game to seeing Santa and all places in between. Jack was surrounded by his family to celebrate his special day. Jack is doing well and had is one-year
We want to thank everyone for all the support and generosity this past year, Jack has been an wonderful addition to our families and we hope his health remains strong.
We recently visited the doctor for his one-year check-up, the doctor was pleased with Jack's progress and thought he was continuiing to grow at a normal pace. Although Jack is behind in some areas we continue to see change each day, he is sitting up very well and rolling like a bowling ball. He continues to crawl on his back to get around and is just beginning to army crawl. He is an incredible joy each and every day, his smile melts your heart and his laugh is contagious. We can't wait to get out of the house once the weather breaks and take Jack to the park and along the lakefront, he really enjoys meeting new people and watching kids run around the playground.
Hope everyone is doing well, be sure to give us a call if you are in the neighborhood, Jack really enjoys visitors.

JACK says MERRY CHRISTMAS!
and wants to especially welcome home his Aunt Nora!!
Before we get started with Jack's adventures we want to Congratulate Aunt Bridge and Uncle Mike on their great news that "The Bridge" is expecting. We are all very happy and excited for them, another boy to add to the clan ?????. Houlihan to Smith to McDermott to Kennedy, sounds like quite a team. Best wishes to Mike and Bridge.
It's been awhile since we've updated everyone on how Jack is doing. It's been an incredibly busy fall and early winter. Jack has literally been on the go all the time since our last update. On December 5, 2008, Jack had his nine-month check-up. Doctor Martin was pleased with Jack's progress and says everything looks good for continued good health. During that doctor's visit Jack received six shots, yes six. Although Jack's legs aren't as small as they once were it was still difficult to watch. There were flu shots and shots that preemies get to prevent whats called RSV. It's important for Jack to receive these shots to protect his immune system from viruses.
During the fall Jack spent alot of time with Mom and Dad touring the South Loop and visiting with friends and family. Jack has had several sleepovers at Grandma Smith's where he is the center of attention as you can imagine. Grandma Houlihan has continued to spoil Jack with many wonderful gifts and visits. Jack made his second visit to Misericordia last week to attend their annual Christmas luncheon, Jack enjoyed the show and even got to meet Santa Claus. This week Mom and Dad took Jack to see Santa at Macy's (Marshall Fields), it just isn't the same as it used to be back in the day. Jack did have a big smile for Santa though.
This has truly been an incredible year for us, we want to extend our deepest thanks to our families and friends who have supported us in so many ways. When Jack was born the outpouring of love and support from everyone was overwhelming that mere words aren't enough to express our gratitude. You can't imagine what a truly fantastic ride the last nine months have been. We wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.
We will be updating the blog regularly, stop in and say hello!!!!!!
